An Ensemble for Everyone!

Our Ensembles

Picture
Beginning Orchestra
This orchestra is specifically designed for students of all ages with no prior experience playing a string instrument. Participants will meet twice a week to develop foundational skills in note and rhythm reading, learn the proper technique for holding and playing their instrument, and engage in group playing. For students currently enrolled in a weekly beginner group at their school, Saturday sessions provide an additional opportunity for instruction. Students may choose between violin, viola, or cello. Upon completing the program, participants will be well-prepared to advance to the String Orchestra within our broader music program.

String Orchestra
This ensemble represents our second level of orchestras, designed for students who have mastered the use of the high and low second fingers and are progressing in their understanding of other finger patterns. Typically, students in this group will have been playing for one to two years. Participation in this orchestra will enable students to further refine their technique, enhancing their proficiency across all finger patterns, improving their rhythm skills, and introducing them to shifting into different positions.

Philharmonic Orchestra
This is an intermediate-level (third-level) string ensemble, designed for students who have mastered all standard first-position hand patterns and are beginning to explore shifting into third and fifth positions. Members of this ensemble will engage with a repertoire of standard string orchestra literature, as well as more advanced educational works. Students will develop a range of sound qualities by experimenting with various bowing techniques, while performing compositions from different historical periods.

Symphony Orchestra
This ensemble is comprised of the most skilled string, woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians. Participants will showcase advanced technical proficiency, enabling them to perform the standard orchestral repertoire with expertise. This includes mastery of all key signatures and strong shifting techniques. Students will engage with the diverse musical styles of various historical periods, while also having the opportunity to explore their individual artistic expression. Through roles such as section leader, soloist, and ensemble member, they will experience the collaborative and personal fulfillment of music-making in a group setting.
